In this post, we want to help you determine if it’s time to redesign your website with our FREE checklist. Are you ready? Let’s dive right in!

The Website Redesign Checklist

  1. Are you embarrassed by your website?
  2. Does your website function properly?
  3. Is your website mobile responsive?
  4. Is your website slow?

Let’s go into each of these points in more detail…

1. Are You Embarrassed By Your Website?

If your website is your dirty little secret as opposed to something you want to show off, then it’s time to redesign your website. Your website should be something you’re proud to show your family, friends and most importantly – your customers! Many new customers tell me that this is the main catalyst for them to redesign their website; they’re just sick of feeling embarrassed.

At the end of the day, your website is your shop front; it represents you and your business. If you’re website doesn’t do this, then it’s time for a change.

2. Does Your Website Function Properly?

The definition of ‘function’ will differ for everyone. Some people simply want an online presence; others want to generate leads and sales; others want to encourage people to download content. The list goes on. Regardless of your definition, there are some fundamental basics that should always work. Here are some examples:

  • Does the contact form work? (Do enquiries go to the correct email address? Do you have required fields for key information you need?)
  • Do your social media links work? (Do they take customers to your social media profiles or the homepage for Facebook or Twitter? Do the links open in a new tab? Remember, you don’t want people to click away from your website).
  • Is your contact information up to date?

If some of these functions don’t work currently, then it’s time to redesign your website.

3. Is Your Website Mobile Responsive?

Times have changed. Before the common use of smartphones, websites were designed for desktop (PC or laptop view). However, as more of the global population got a smartphone, the majority of web traffic moved from desktop to mobile. Your website needs to display properly on a mobile device such as a smartphone or tablet. This is called ‘mobile responsive’. It’s a mobbile version of your website. It won’t look exactly the same as the desktop version, but it will look pretty close.

How do you tell if your website is mobile responsive or not? Simply load up your website on your phone and see how it displays. If the images and text are running off the screen then it’s not mobile responisve. If your website isn’t mobile responsive, it’s time to redesign your website.

4. Is Your Website Slow?

Slow websites are a killer for your SEO (Google rankings) and opportunity to generate leads and sales. Simply put, people don’t wait for slow websites. Various studies have been done to measure how long people will wait for a website to load before they click off.

47% of consumers expect a web page to load in 2 seconds or less.

Kissmetrics

2 seconds! That’s not long at all! Every second counts. For every second delay that your website loads up, you are losing potential traffic, leads and sales.

Google has a free tool called, PageSpeed Insights where you can measure how fast your website loads up (on both desktop and mobile). If your website is slow, it’s time to redesign your website.
